The Bully Coach School approach provides a syllabus,
strategies and a plan for implementing a whole school
approach to reducing bullying. Examples of what we offer as part of
our program:
- An assessment of the school community and the
bully problem from different staff perspectives
- Defining what bullying is and how to identify
it, as well as a code of conduct
- Determination of how and when adults intervene
when bullying is seen
- Identification of key personnel to carry out the
agenda in the school. The need for Principal
support, encouragement, and reward will be addressed
- Program introduction and the timing of this to
staff and parents
- Discussion of trainings and a time-table for all
the trainings of teachers, aides, parents, and
students
- Discussion of training of key staff to provide
the student trainings following our staff training
of "the trainers"
- Use of Questionnaire and data collection
- Discussion of acceptable/unacceptable behavior
- Documentation protocols; past, present and
future and the flow of the paper documentation
- Physical assessment of areas in the school that
may be prone to bullying
- Determination of how to manage incidents
- Consequences for bullying and unacceptable
behavior. Bullying consequences can be on a
continuum based on the severity of the bully event.
All staff needs to be consistent in their use of
these consequences based on the severity of the
incident, and whether this is the first incident or
one of many
- Appropriate help for victims
- Pro-social consequences and opportunities for
learning
- Opportunities for positive modeling between
children
- Discussion of opportunities for children who may
need further skills
- Opportunities for special projects (i.e., art)
to be part of program
- Discussion of parent involvement beyond parent
trainings
